HONOURABLE SRI JUSTICE R.M.BAPAT

Hon’ble Sri Justice Ramesh Madhav Bapat hails from an illustrious Maharashtrian family of Legal luminaries. He was born on 30th April, 1941 in Maharashtra State, India. His respected great grand-father was a reputed Lawyer. His revered grand-father though a Law Graduate worked in a coveted Post in the erstwhile Princely state of Mysore. His grandfather’s brother was also a famous Lawyer. His beloved father was a Garrison Engineer. Sri Ramesh did schooling in various Institutions in the State of Gujarat and Maharashtra, at places where his father was posted. He did his intermediate and B.Sc.,(Hons.) from the University of Pune. He obtained his Law Degree in 1965 from Pune University. He worked for two years in the Chamber of Sri C.B. Agarwal, Bar-at-Law. He mainly practiced in Civil Side. He was Standing Counsel for several leading and famous private Companies. Sri Ramesh was selected as District & Sessions Judge in 1979 and posted at Thane. Subsequently he was appointed as Additional Registrar of Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court. In 1984 he was transferred to Ratnagiri as District & Sessions Judge and later to Parbani. (Parbani was part and parcel of the erstwhile Nizam State). At Parbani Shri Ramesh, as District and Sessions Judge disposed of all the old pending Revision Applications against the orders passed by the Magistrates U/S-125 Cr.P.C., by the time he was transferred to Nagpur in August 1989. In November, 1990 he was appointed as Registrar, Bombay High Court. Later he worked as Principal Judge, Family Court, Bombay. Shri Ramesh made a name in the history of Maharashtra State as the only Judge whose disposal rate was the highest. Shri Ramesh was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on 20th January, 1994. Later transferred to Andhra Pradesh as Additional Judge of Andhra Pradesh High Court on 11th Februray, 1994 and appointed as a Judge of A.P. High Court w.e.f. 7.7.1995. Justice Shri Ramesh is fond of literature and more interested in Judicial work.
