Hon’ble Sri Justice K. Punnayya was born on 19th August, 1923. Educated in Baruva, Surangi Rajah’s High School, Ichapuram, M.R. College, Vizianagaram and Andhra University, Waltair. While studying in Intermediate M.R. College, Vizianagaram, he participated in Quit India movement in 1942 and underwent imprisonment for six months and had to discontinue studies. After attainment of Independence resumed studies in 1947. Obtained Law degree in 1953. Enrolled as an Advocate in September, 1956 and set up practice in Srikakulam. Practised both on Criminal and Civil sides and became one of the leading Advocates. In 1964 directly recruited as District and Sessions Judge Gr-II. Promoted as Grade-I District and Sessions Judge in July 1971 while working as Chief Judge, City Small Causes Court. Worked as chief Judge, City Civil Court, Hyderabad from 16th November, 1972 till he was elevated to the Bench on 17th October, 1974, as permanent Judge. Associated with public activities and educational Institutions. Elected as Member of Legislature in 1955 and re-elected in 1962 and continued to be a Member of Legislature till 1964. Was also a Senator of Andhra University for two terms. Was Vice-chairman of Srikakulam Zilla Parshad for a term. Was a Member of the State Transport Authority, Hyderabad from 1962 to 1964.
